Game Time Decisions

The brain considers change very dangerous. Change is seen as a threat. Thus the brain creates emotional resistance. If the mind can kill a good idea by dampening it with emotional turmoil, it will.
Dr. Wilson, Harvard University.

We are often told to take our time when making a decision and this is wise counsel. However, we are also counseled to make a decision. Too often, the time we take to make the decision is, in and of itself, adversarial to our making the correct determination.

When we wait to long, we can allow seeds of doubt to enter our decision paradigm. The enemy will take these seeds and grow them into full blown plants which will divert us from making the best choice.

As athletes, we prepare doing the same drills over and over so when the time comes for us to execute we do so using the muscle memory which we have created through hours of training. We do not question the use of these techniques because we have proven them to be useful and justified.

Likewise, we should be spending our time sharpening our skills in righteousness, honor, justice, etc so when we are called upon to make moral decisions we can do so without haste or second guessing ourselves.

It is written in Deuteronomy 3:6, "Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid or tremble in dread before them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not fail you or abandon you." We are called to be bold in our decision making process as the Lord has our back.

When we live out his commandments and cloak ourselves with his countenance then we develop the spiritual muscle memory which will allow us to quickly make the correct decisions.

We need to take time each day to discipline ourselves in the word as this is how we can be better equipped to make the correct decisions when called upon to do so. We need to not make decisions based upon emotion but instead upon reasoned Godly principles which we know to be true.

As Dr. Wilson points out, if the mind can kill a good idea it will. A man who is cloaked in the word is able to thwart any attempt at the emotional turmoil which the enemy tries to use to influence him. As the Lord is our shepherd we shall not want!

Let us commit ourselves to making the correct game time decisions. Let us each day practice the drills we know will help us to make the correct choices. Let us submit ourselves to the Lord's game plan and not our own.

Come game day, we will make the correct decisions in a timely fashion and they will know that we are men of God because there was no hesitation in the righteous decisions we were prepared to make .. and made.
