Bastrop Tribe Consolidated running back Samuel Osborn, who rushed for 2,300 yards last season, is not taking his foot off the accelerator.

Osborn, a 5-8, 160-pound senior, sped for 487 yards on 29 carries and scored nine touchdowns in an 82-34 victory at Williamson County on Friday. Osborn scored five touchdowns in the first quarter alone. He also returned two kickoffs for another 95 yards.

"This was the one of the best offensive performances in Tribe history and certainly the best single-game performance from Osborn…," Tribe coach Brent Golemon said in an email.

The Warriors (4-1) led 70-34 at halftime, but they hadn’t reached the 45-point advantage for the mercy rule. Two touchdowns in the third quarter ended the contest.

Osborn has currently gained 1,114 yards and scored 19 touchdowns in five games but four were stopped at halftime because of the mercy rule.

Golemon said the only "bad news was we gave up five touchdowns on plays over 50 yards on first and second down."

Tribe committed no turnovers and scored on every possession.

Rio Mata scored on a 2-yard run for Tribe, currently ranked No. 15 among all six-man teams in Texas. Mata led the defense with four tackles.

Quarterback Chandler Golemon connected with Hansen Collie for a 15-yard scoring strike in the first quarter.

"After that completion, (Williamson County) kept a deep safety in the game all night, and we just kept running the ball," Golemon said.

Tribe plays its first home contest of the season against San Antonio Jubilee (2-0) on Friday.

"We are really looking forward to finally wearing our home jersey after five weeks on the road," Golemon said.

Jubilee was forced to not compete the first four weeks of the football season because of COVID-19 restrictions in San Antonio, Golemon said.

"They are vastly improved from their inaugural season last year," Golemon said.

Tribe hosts San Antonio Jubilee (2-0) at home on Friday.
