Bastrop Tribe vanquished Austin Royals 66-20 in a six-man contest at home on Friday.

After the win, the Tribe (1-1) moved up one place to No. 2 on the Texas Association of Independent Athletic Organizations (TAIAO) rankings. Among all six-man teams in Texas, the Tribe is ranked No. 22.

“Public schools get weighted higher than private schools in the poll,” Tribe coach Brent Golemon said. “So getting in the top 20 is really hard.”

The Tribe fumbled on its first three drives of the game but still led 30-8 at halftime.

Grant Golemon performed double duty for the Tribe. On offense, he completed 7-of-8 passes for 111 yards and four touchdowns. He led the team with 11 tackles on defense.

Samuel Osborn was the leading rusher with nine carries for 92 yards and two touchdowns. Travis Guy gained 26 yards and scored two touchdowns. Esteban Lozano had eight carries for 72 yards.

Graham Mills was the leading receiver with four receptions for 74 yards and three touchdowns.

Osborn also passed for a touchdown and caught a touchdown. Cameron Galipp caught a touchdown pass.

Matthew Morales and Lake Mills each intercepted a pass, and Mills also recovered a fumble.

Nathaniel Heilig converted six-of-eight point after attempts. An extra point in six-man football counts as two points.

The game was stopped midway in the fourth quarter because of the 45-point mercy rule.

“In the second half, we were able to take control by keeping the Royals off balance with an even mixture of run and pass,” Golemon said.

Austin Royals (1-1) slipped to No. 6 in the TAIAO rankings.

The Tribe plays at Austin Achieve (0-1) on Friday.
